I could not, at my age, be content to take my place by the fireside and simply look on. Life is meant to be lived! Curiosity must be kept alive. -Eleanor Roosevelt

Monteverde, Costa Rica

Tourist from all over the world come to this part of CR to be a part of the biodiversity of the  Cloud Forest Reserve ecosystem. They want to experience extreme canopy bridge walks and/or ziplines that sail you through the Cloud Forest, or take guided night walks to observe wonders hidden in the forest after dark, and to enjoy searching for fascinating birds, interesting insects, remarkable animals like the many  species of butterflies,  or for a chance sighting of  a sloth, and to see frogs that glow in dark.  To be surrounded by an outstanding ecological sanctuary is a wonderful way to heighten the senses. The Reserva Biologica Bosque Nuboso Monteverde is one of the 7 Wonders of Costa Rica. As our week here progresses, we hope to see and do as much as possible.

Facts:
Costa Rica's capital is San Jose. CR has a population of 4.1 million people. Official language is Spanish. For all the latest Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Central America news, visit www.ticotimes.net. Costa Ricans call themselves ticos/ticas.

It's astonishing to think that this small nation of 51,000 sq. km. is home to more than 830 bird species. In fact, it has more bird species than all of North America. This diversity is due to the fact that CR is a bridge between the northern and southern hemispheres as well as a land of abundance in ecosystems that range from high altitude cloud forests to lowland lagoons and swamps; from dry tropical forest to rain forests all amid each and river wetlands. It's amazing to think that each of these ecosystems is a unique habitat providing shelter to distinctive and many times endemic animal species.  We are happy to be enjoying Monteverde's mountains and dense vegetation.
