Lorne to Port Campbell... The Great Ocean Rd., Victoria

Our trusty driver Bob has taken to driving on the "wrong" side of the road without any problems. The first day he turned the windshield wipers on a few times instead of the turn signal, but he hasn't done it since then. He's a "pro" now!

Today he drove us safely up and over, down and around, twisting and turning on the winding, hilly, curvy, beautiful Great Ocean RD. We went about 149km today, stopping for many photographs. We probably could have stopped hundreds of times! The views were incredible. Every curve brought a new fabulous view and ocean scenes that were so pristine they seemed unreal. We even got to drive awhile in the hinterland (I love that word!). We drove through the Otway National Park; heavily forested land.

We got so excited to see the koala in the wild. Julie so wanted to see one. It was feasting on it's favorite leaves right along side the roadway! How about that for a lucky day? Also, we have lucked out with the weather throughout our stay in Australia. Except for a few hot days earlier in the month, we have had terrific temps. Today and yesterday have been in the 70s.

  1. Such gorgeous scenery - if I was with you, you WOULD have to stop hundreds of times! You are looking great - your hair is longer than I'm used to seeing. Looks good. Don't you and Julie be gabbing so much that Bob loses concentration at the wheel!

  2. Oh, such beautiful scenery. You better stop often so Bob can enjoy the beauty. I remember driving on the "other" side of the road and had to have 100% concentration!! The koala photo is so adorable...don't let Julie put it in her suitcase.

  4. We continue to enjoy your adventure (vicariously). You both look terrific and your photos are awesome of the two of you, the koalas, the hot springs, Art, your bikes, etc. My sister from Madison just left. My sister from Fargo and her husband arrive tonight, but they are renting for two months in Tucson.
Happy trails, you two! Love, Bill and Marcia
