Dubai, UAE (United Arab Emirates)

Where in the world are Mary and Bob?
We are on the Persian Gulf in the Middle East in one of the 7 sheikdoms of the UAE.  Dubai is considered the most progressive, aggresive and dynamic of the Emirates. It has been described as a kind of Arabian Hong Kong, with the design sense of Miami and the flash of Las Vegas. We'd agree.
2.6 million people live here. 80% of them are foreigners; the rest Arabs. The language is Arabic with English spoken everywhere. The capital of the UAE is Abu Dhabi. Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. It is flashy, fun and quite surreal. 5 million tourists visit every year. The architecture is stunning and overwhelming. Our 26 floor apt. overlooks part of the Dubai Marina. Construction cranes are everywhere! Yesterday we felt a bit of vertigo looking up at all the amazing designs.

The pretzel-like building is amazing!

The Marina Walk has great views.

You name it and you can buy it in Dubai.

Can't wait to see the fish souq.

Bought em' and loved em'.

Where in the world are Mary and Bob?

Even the money is uniquely designed.

Bob is ready for golf in the Persian Gulf.

Even the Metro Station has a gorgeous design.

The tops of the buildings delight the senses.

After a 3 hr flight from PHX to Atlanta and a 15 hr flight from Atlanta to Dubai 3 nights ago, we are finally getting over our jet-lag. The first day here we walked around the marina, bought a few groceries and walked to Jumeirah Beach. Yesterday, we took the impressive driverless metro to Emirates Golf Course. Bob golfed with a couple from France. I took photos and enjoyed all the birds on the course. There are 3 courses. Bob played the Flado Course. Today we plan to visit Dubai Creek and the souqs.
Tomorrow we board our cruise ship.  Stay tuned to the blog for the next 30 days as we cruise from the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea,  and the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.
