The remarkable thing about travel is its ability to turn us into wide-eyed children again. --Nina Willdorf

PHX to LA- LA to Lima, Peru- Lima to Santiago, Chile--- 24 hrs. later we arrived! All went well with the flights. We became wide-eyed children after 10 hours of sleep, but before that could happen we had to wait all morning/afternoon for our hotel room (arriving at 6a.m makes for a loooong day!). So, we spent the day walking around Santiago, on the hunt for a Chilean adapter (oops, forget we were going to be in Chile for 2 days-- our adapter works for Argentina/Uruguay! I wore Bob out with the 2 hr. walk, but along the way, we found a great restaurant with a beautiful outdoor setting. What caught our eye, was the Stella Artois (our favorite beer in the world) sign! We didn't want to exchange any money since we're only here for 2 days, so finding a cab to take us back was fun and added to the adventure. Of course, he spoke no English, but we managed to figure it out.
It's quite warm (85ºF), so a nice cold Stella and a delightful steak/avacado/hot pepper sandwich took care of all ills. Our waiter spoke Spanish, but somehow we managed to work through the language issues. We finished off lunch with a cerveza chilean (local beer) called Kunstmann Gran Torobavo. Nice! More walking to the Mac store (no luck) and finally to HomeDepot where luck would have it we found our adaptor(it took 6 people before we found a women who spoke a bit of English). Everyone is very helpful.

  1. Glad to see that you arrived safely. Had lunch today with a friend who lived in Buenos Aires for 4 years. She recommended Palermo area for accomodations and also recommended a great book store. Am leaning toward a week's stay in BA before joining you in Uruguay :>)

  2. GREAT to read of your adventures! Of course, I've been thinking of you. Beautiful in Denver but not as warm as your part of the world. Take care - stay safe.
