Opera House... Sydney, Australia

In 1973, Bob and I joined thousands of Aussies for the grand opening of the Sydney Opera House. The queen dedicated the new scenic wonder of Sydney. We watched the parade, waved at the Queen and enjoyed the day.

Here we are once again seeing the sight... enjoy our pictures of this famous Opera House thirty seven years later! Wish we could show you the '73 pics; Bob had hair and mine was dark brown!

One thing that we distinctly remember about that day all those years ago is the smell in the air while walking to the parade through the side streets of Sydney. We could smell [and see] the piled up garbage that had been bulldozed out of the line of sight of the queen and the parade route! The garbage workers had gone on strike the week before and the government had simply gotten other workers to move it away from the festivities and dealt with the workers later.
