The local trains are clean, bright and oh-so easy to use. We walk up to the Lakeside Shopping Center in Joondalup, buy our ticket in a machine and hop on. Bicycles are allowed during off-peak times, but we haven't tried that yet. We enjoy train riding. It's really an easy way to get around and a great alternative to renting a car. Driving a car around unknown places is too difficult for the driver who has to be so aware of driving and not the beautiful scenery. The train rides in Australia give us both a chance to see what's "out the window" and to relax and let someone else do the driving. We plan on taking the trains as much as we can in WA!
