Bicycling along the Indian Ocean... Western Australia

Early on a beautiful, crystal clear Sunday morning whilst bicycling the pathway along the ocean/beach/hillly hilly dunes, we zipped up and down the hills enjoying the salty air and the exercise. We encountered a few people walking, biking, and running; generally enjoying the cool early morning air. People onshore were fishing, walking the beach, sunbathing, enjoying the beauty of the landscape. In the ocean, wakeboarders were being pulled by boats, kayakers were bobbing in the calm aqua-marine ocean, and fisherwo/men in large and small boats were hoping for a good catch-of-the-day.

The sand dunes go on and on and on. This is a special area, much like the tundra---- it needs to be protected. Sand dunes are delicate and easily disturbed. The fences keep people on the pathways. About every 3K or so, there is access to the beaches via a boardwalk.

We love our new bikes. However, without our clipped-in shoes, we have to work extra hard on the hills of the sand dunes. We have to stand up carefully while maintaining balance and/or pump really hard and carefully without falling off of the pedal. We realized immediately how much we depend on our clip-in shoe system. We brought them with us from the states, but have to go back to the bike store (not close) to use their tool to put them on our bikes. Right now we are having too much fun bicycling to worry about it. I've named my new bike "Ocean Blue."

  1. Hi Mar,
Bob's could be "Silver Streak". Liked your post about the dunes and shoreline - it looks beautiful there! Gosh - what would I do without clips?
