The rock in Fiordland is HUGE! It's "in your face" mountains, somewhat like the Rockies in Canada, but on a larger scale because you are on a narrow road, surrounded by big rock. I couldn't stop looking and taking pictures. Bob stopped at every viewpoint! I didn't want the day to end. I love rocks!
One of my favorite sections was when our Toyota climbed and inched up and up and up and faced a Humongously BIG rock face. We had come through the tunnel going downhill, but looking at this rock and knowing we'd be going INTO the heart of the rock UPHILL was an interesting thought. For 1.5km, our car went uphill in the one-way tunnel that was built in 1929 by hand using picks/shovels and wheelbarrows.
Nonetheless, there's something reassuring about being "inside" a rock !!!!
