Nuevos comienzos... New Beginnings, Quito, Ecuador

The remarkable thing about travel is its ability to turn us into wide-eyed children again. -Nina Willdorf

Bob and I were like wide-eyed children today! We arrived Quito around 1:30pm. This is my third time flying into the city and Bob's second, but we've never arrived in the day and it is some kind of landing to see and feel! It's as though you are arriving into a humongous bowl of earth surrounded by a city of millions. Bob says that the pilots must have trained on aircraft carriers as they have to stick the landing. It's quite exciting. My pictures out of the plane window give you a bit of the feeling. Our flight from Panama City to Quito took 1 1/2 hrs.

We got a cab and he found our vrbo "no problemo." The owners had sent us specific directions on the internet in Spanish because they are not here until later tonight. That saved us. We are in Old Town Quito and it is amazing. The sights, sounds and beautiful architecture dazzle the senses. We walked around for about 2 hours, had a wonderful lunch and then found our way back to our vrbo on the old narrow streets. The wifi at our vrbo works, Bob found Monday night football on the TV, so we are contento for the evening. Tomorrow, we're suppose to go on a walking tour of Old Quito with Ken, our vrbo owner.

I had to buy a scarf from that adorable girl. Her smile melted me and it was only $3.00.

We were a bit winded and dizzy upon arriving, but after drinking water, eating lunch and walking around awhile, we felt better.  The altitude in Quito is almost 10,000. It's the second highest capital city in the world. La Paz, Bolivia is the highest.

  2. Yes, you're as high as me now, Mar! Bob could have gotten his hair cut in that barber shop, but the gal in Panama did give a good oil job and scalp massage... (I'm still laughing about that!) That little gal's smile would have melted me, too. Have fun, Mar, and stay safe. It was great talking to you.
