Week 2... Costa Rica... The Road to Paradise is not paved!

Week 2 and Day 1 of... vrbo # 2

We've gone from a rugged remote rustic vrbo cottage outside of Santa Elena/Monteverde to a remote first-class vrbo on the outskirts of Quepos/Manuel Antonio, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Looking at photos on the vrbo website is tricky; you're never exactly sure what the place you are renting really looks like. This place looked awfully cute, but it's much much more... it's awesome! All the wood in the house is teak.

We spent most of our first evening and day on the front patio. I've been catching up on the computer today, blogging etc. I have to stop every so often, grab the binoculars and check out the toucans! I hear their call to each other and jump up to find them. So far, I've gotten one half-way good picture. They are eating something way up in the treetops. Jose talked Bob into getting out of the hammock to go with him to Quepos.

Since renting a car here is super expensive, we've opted to take up Jose on his offer of going into town with him whenever he has errands. Since it's 20 min. on a dusty road by car, we won't be walking that far. He has also offered to drop us off one day at Manuel Antonio National Park. If you've read the book 1000 Places to See Before You Die (thank you Sue!), you would have said... "I want to go there!"  We will take a cooler with lunch and spend a day there soon. Jose will come back to pick us up. The Costa Ricans are extremely nice people. Maya Angelous was absolutely correct with what she said about remembering the people who make you feel good. We've only been with Jose a day and he's already in our hearts. He has been very gracious and welcoming. We had 3 vases of fresh flowers in the vrbo upon arrival.

Our small casa in the forest overlooking the ocean is owned by Jose and Wendy. There house is right next door.  Wendy is gone to Michigan to visit her family, so her husband Jose is taking care of us. He picked us up from Quepos yesterday. Manual Antonio is about 4k from Quepos. Our vrbo is about 20 min. from Q on a bumpy dirt road (seems to be the norm in CR). It is true that the road to paradise is not paved!






The croc pictures were taken yesterday on our way here. Our van driver stopped to show us. Yikes!

  1. It's so fun to see where you're staying! You can pave the way for all of us that want new and exciting places to visit. Bob sure looks relaxed. Skiing is getting better...7 new inches last night.
