Christmas Day 2009... Joondalup, WA

After eating Kendra's delicious Christmas omelette and some Aussie bacon, we packed our cooler for a Christmas Day outing at the beach. In our cooler we had a bottle of "Kneedeep in Margaret River" wine, 5 different kinds of Aussie cheese, rice crackers, slices of capsicum, green olives, salami slices and a chocolate yummy------ all made in Australia! It was a true Aussie Christmas Day feast (except that we forgot to buy some prawns). After slathering on the sunscreen, our walk to Burns Beach took 30 min. The weather was perfect with some cloud cover, a breeze off of the Indian Ocean and a bit of sunshine. We read our books...Bill Bryson's "In a Sunburned Country" kept Bob entertained. Kendra started her new book, "Lacuna" by Barbara Kingsolver. Mary was kneedeep in her favorite kind of read, a nonfiction called "Namma: A Tibetan Love Story". We ate our vittles and relaxed on the beach. Nice. The 30 min. walk home, the sun, the breeze, the fresh ocean air and our full stomachs made us want to take a nap. However, Kendra and Bob decided to go out on the golf course to play a few holes and watch the kangaroos scamper around the course eating their Christmas Day feast of fine tall green grass. Whilst they were away, Mary was kneedeep in her other nonfiction book "Stones Into Schools", Greg Mortenson's newest.

On Christmas evening the girls made a Mexican feast. Kendra cooked yummy chicken with spinach enchiladas. She smothered them with Greek yogurt and enchilada sauce. Mary stirred up steak fajitas with red, green and yellow capsicum and heaps of onions. Kendra rounded out the dinner with homemade salsa and guacamole. Add a lovely bottle of wine, corn chips and 3 Americans who LOVE Mexican food and what do you have? You have a fiesta! We gave thanks for our bounty. Bob cleaned up the kitchen and did the dishes. Our evening ended with a spectacular sunset.

  1. Sounds like a spectacular Christmas Day, Mar. That sunset was breathtaking. Snowing again here in Denver.

  2. Your photos and narrative are spectacular. Great pictures of the three of you slim, physically fit bodies on the beach and your wonderful Christmas Dinner. We golfed and then had steak and scallops on the grill. Met the son-in-law of a friend of mine and golfed with him. He is a doctor in Omaha and he and his wife are flying to New Zealand on Jan. 15 for a hiking trip. They have been training up in Madera Canyon. Anyway, I gave him your blog link and he loves it! We love you! Thanks for letting us share in your adventure. --Bill and Marcia
