We left at 8:30 this morning on a wine tour in the Barossa Valley. The drive out of Adelaide was great. This is a beautiful city. (It's definitely our favorite, but more about that in a later blog.) We spent the entire day on a wine tour (also stopped to see the world's biggest rocking chair, a whispering dam, and went to a dried fruit store). Wolf Blass wines were good, but we really loved the small wineries the best. The wine bottle is sitting on a ledge overlooking the entire Barossa Valley. This area brought many memories back to us. 37 years ago we camped here with teacher friends from Sale. We remember how small it was then. This wine region is known for its shiraz grapes.
What made today's tour even more special is that we were on the same roads that Lance Armstrong and his team Radio Shack will be racing on starting this next week in the Tour Down Under. It's hill and windy with many many switchbacks and steep pitches. What a great place to have a bike tour.
Lance arrived with his son Max and girl friend on his private jet yesterday. We hope to go down to the staging area tomorrow to see what there is to see, but we're not expecting much since the real race doesn't start until Sunday. The teams are here practicing now. If you can get the Tour Down Under on your TV or computer, you'll see much more of this gorgeous part of Australia.
Hey Mar,
ReplyDeleteTry to get Lance's autograph for me! He might ask you to be part of his support crew.
Love all your adventures. We're envious but at least it's sunny and warm in CO. We do need more snow!!
Hi Mar, Great to hear your voice last night (and Bob's). My Bob went directly to the TV and has the Tour recorded. It's only on a half hour, which bummed him! Forgot to tell you, I can no longer drink wine. However, I could sit on the large rocking chair!
