I could not, at my age, be content to take my place by the fireside and simply look on. Life is meant to be lived! Curiosity must be kept alive. -Eleanor Roosevelt

Day Tour... Panama Canal, Panama

We toured one of the series of 3 locks on the Panama Canal, the Miraflores. This ship from Monrovia has a expert Panamanian captain on board, guiding the ship the whole way through.

Tugs work hard on the canal to keep the ships safe and straight through the locks. They also give a push if needed.

Six foot steel gates of the Miraflores Lock. Behind and beyond this lock is where 1 of the new 3 locks for the canal is being constructed for bigger ships. The canal is almost 100 yrs. old.

Mary and Bob enjoying another learning experience thanks to our guide Sebastian (from Ireland).

We also visited exhibitions in 4 different halls. A short film about the canal told us about its history.  To learn more about this interesting part of our world, go to www.pancanal.com or www.buildingthenewpanamacanal.com.
